Matt Lee is a creative technologist working at the intersection of design and code. With over 15 years of experience ranging from print design to front-end development, he specializes in creating digital products and online publications with an approach that relies equally on layout software and code editors.
Matt is a Staff Marketing Designer at Shopify, where he focuses on growing the community of developers building apps and themes for independent merchants. He was previously a Senior Designer at GitHub, working as part of a small team responsible for the public web presence of the world’s largest open source software platform. Matt has also worked in design firms across the country including digital agency Upstatement in Boston, brand identity studio C&G Partners in New York, and nonprofit specialists Landesberg Design in Pittsburgh.
He has created projects for clients including Penguin Random House, PBS NewsHour, Texas Monthly, Christopher Kimball’s Milk Street, Contemporary Art Museum of St. Louis, Kenyon College, MIT, and The Rockefeller Foundation. His work has been recognized by the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education (CASE), the University and College Designers Association (UCDA), and the American Association of Museums (AAM), and has appeared in publications including Communication Arts and Print magazine. A native of Cleveland, Matt earned his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Kent State University.
