At AIGA Asheville, we don’t just talk the talk; we walk the walk. We’re an all-volunteer Board, supported by Committees, each led by Chairs who are dedicated to specific facets of our mission. We value collaboration, innovation, and the joy that comes from creating something bigger than ourselves.

Qualifications
You don’t need to be a designer to serve on our Board or Committees, but you do need to be passionate about uplifting the creative community. Here’s who we’re looking for:
Designers, artists, makers, and creatives of all kinds
Professionals in marketing, strategy, development, or writing

Novices and veterans in your respective fields

How To Board This Ship

Interview: Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed by our selection committee.
Selection: Successful applicants will be notified by Dec 15th. Understand the Bylaws: Board Members will be expected to read and understand our bylaws. They are publicly viewable here.
Orientation: All new and existing members undergo a comprehensive orientation to get them up to speed at our board retreat scheduled for January 20th or 21st TBD by popular vote of the newly elected board. Please save the date if possible, when you apply. But don’t let it stop you if you can’t make those dates.
Board and Committee Roles:
Executive Board Roles
President: The chief executive officer responsible for the overall leadership and strategy of the organization.
Vice President: Assists the President and steps in during their absence; also responsible for membership management.
Secretary/Treasurer: Manages meeting minutes, notices, and financial matters including budgets and filings.
Membership Director: Manages membership growth and retention, and serves as the primary liaison between the board and the members.
Sponsorship Director: Oversees the acquisition and stewardship of sponsorships and partnerships.
Board Roles (Each of the below also have various committee member opportunities)
Education Chair: Focuses on educational programming and partnerships with schools and universities.
Design & Marketing Co-Chairs: Lead the Design & Marketing Committee, responsible for branding, communications, and promotional activities.
Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Chair: Works to ensure the organization reflects the diversity of the community it serves and is inclusive in all activities.
Programming Events Chair: Coordinates and oversees all event planning and execution.
Business Outreach Chair: Builds relationships with local organizations and oversees community service initiatives.
Design Weekend Chair: Plans and facilitates AIGA Asheville Design Weekend, held annually in Q4.
A Few Important Notes
Only elected Board Members have decision-making authority in line with our bylaws.
Advisors and Volunteers operate in a supportive capacity and do not have decision-making authority.
